Setting up the parts and accessories web store

Sell parts and accessories on your website from your parts inventory, with fitment search, pickup or shipping, promo codes, card payment through Stripe and a Google feed.

The web store adds a Shop to your website at /shop. Shoppers search your parts and accessories, filter by what fits their vehicle, see live stock at each of your stores, and check out for in-store pickup or shipping. Every product is a part from your parts inventory: part number, list price, tax and stock stay there, and the store never keeps a separate stock count.

Before you start #

  • The web store is part of the Pro and Enterprise plans (plan feature store). See plans and trials.
  • The store is off until you open it.
  • You need store.manage to set it up.

Find your way around #

Open Service & parts › Web store. The tabs are Orders, Products, Categories, Shipping, Promo codes and Settings & feed.

1. Choose what to sell #

  1. Open the Products tab. It lists your active parts. Filter by Online or Not online and by parts category.
  2. Tick parts and select Put selected online (or Take selected offline), or open a product to set it up in detail:
    • Sell online, the Web title and Web address (slug), Brand and Store category.
    • Online price (empty uses the part's list price) and an optional Compare-at price, shown struck through when it is higher.
    • Description (paragraphs, bold, lists and links).
    • Can be shipped, In-store pickup, Hazardous material (only shipping methods that allow hazmat), Oversize (adds the method's oversize fee) and the Shipping weight (oz).
    • Max per order, Sell when out of stock (special order) with ETA text, GTIN / UPC, Include in the Google product feed and Featured (listed first).
    • Fitment: one line per vehicle as Make | Model | years, for example Yamaha | MT-09 | 2014-. Use * for every model. Or tick Universal fit.
  3. Save, then add up to 8 Images (JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 10 MB each) with a description for screen readers.
Web store products (open full size)
Choosing which parts are sold online.
  1. Tabs of the web store.
  2. Filters: search, online or not, parts category.
  3. Put selected online / Take selected offline.

2. Organize categories #

On the Categories tab, build the store's own category tree, up to three levels deep (for example Riding gear › Helmets). Each category has a name, web address, order and description, and can be hidden. A category page also lists the products of its subcategories.

3. Set up shipping #

On the Shipping tab, add your shipping methods. In-store pickup is always free.

  • Rate: a flat fee, a table by order weight (pounds = price), or a table by order value (order $ = price).
  • Free over an order amount, an Oversize fee per item (charged even when shipping is free) and Delivery time text.
  • Tick Hazmat items may use this method (ground) where allowed, and Offered at checkout.

4. Promo codes #

On the Promo codes tab, add a code with a type (percent off, amount off or free shipping), a value, an optional minimum order, start and end dates and a use limit.

5. Settings, payment and the feed #

Web store settings (open full size)
Payment status, store settings and the Google product feed.
  1. Payment: whether card payment is available, and why not if it is not. Sales tax comes from your accounting settings.
  2. Store is open: shows /shop on your website.
  3. Ships from: the rooftop that ships orders. Pickup at chooses which rooftops offer pickup (none ticked = every public rooftop).
  4. Google product feed.

Also on this tab: the store title and intro text, how long stock is held while a shopper pays (minutes, default 30) and how long pay-in-store reservations are held (days, default 3), Charge sales tax on shipping, Without card payment, offer "reserve for pickup, pay in store", an extra email address for new orders, and the return policy shown on product and order pages.

Google product feed: select Switch on to get a private feed link for Google Merchant Center, with your online products' title, description, images, price, availability, brand, part number and GTIN. Add it in Merchant Center as a scheduled fetch. Create a new link turns off the old one. The tab lists products left out of the feed and why (no image, no price, unavailable or excluded). Check Merchant Center's own diagnostics before relying on the feed.

What shoppers see #

The web store on the demo website (open full size)
The demo store. The demo never takes orders.
  1. Search by name, brand, description or part number.
  2. Fits my vehicle: year, make and model from your fitment data. Universal items always show.
  3. Product card with price and stock.
A product page on a phone (open full size)
A battery with a refundable core charge and stock at each store, on a phone.
  1. Availability at each store, such as "In stock at Powersports Showroom (2 left)", or special-order timing.
  2. Add to cart.

Shoppers do not need an account. At checkout they enter their details, choose pickup at a store or shipping with a method, see the totals (items, discount, core charges, shipping and tax) and place the order. Prices, stock, shipping and tax are always calculated by MotoDealerHQ. Then they pay on Stripe, or reserve for pickup and pay in store. See web store orders.

Tips #

  • Start with a few dozen fast-moving accessories with good photos and fitment.
  • Add fitment to tires, filters, plugs and batteries; "Fits my vehicle" is how riders shop.
  • Use compare-at prices for real markdowns only.
