Market research

Compare your units with similar listings near each rooftop, see where your prices sit, and spot high-demand segments, using licensed market data within a budget.

Market research compares your stock with similar vehicles other sellers advertise near you. It shows asking-price ranges, where each of your units sits (below, at or above market), how much supply there is, and which segments leave the market fastest. Use it to price new arrivals, review aged units and decide what to stock.

Before you start #

Market research works only when all of these are true:

  1. Your platform operator has switched market data on and allowed your dealership.
  2. Someone with settings.manage has turned it on for your dealership under Market research › Settings and set a monthly budget.
  3. You have ai.market_research (and inventory.view for the inventory and demand tabs).

Set it up for your dealership #

  1. Open Reports & AI › Market research and select Settings.
  2. Tick Turn on market research for this dealership. The box is disabled while the platform does not allow your dealership.
  3. Set Provider calls per month and Spending per month (USD). Both start at 0 and cannot exceed the ceiling your operator set.
  4. Under Default market per rooftop, enter a ZIP and radius for each rooftop. Leave them blank to use the rooftop's own postal code with a 50-mile radius.
  5. Save.

Search comparables #

  1. Open Reports & AI › Market research. The Comparables tab opens.
  2. Under Market, choose a rooftop default, or enter a ZIP and Radius (miles), or a two-letter state.
  3. Under Vehicle, set the Type, Make, Model and any other filters (trim, years, condition, miles or hours, price range).
  4. Select Search.
The Market research page with the tabs, provider line, market fields and vehicle fields highlighted (open full size)
Market research in the demo, where it is switched off and uses synthetic data. Numbers match the list below.
  1. Tabs. Comparables, Inventory vs market and Demand.
  2. Provider line. The data source, the calls used this month against your budget, and how long results are cached.
  3. Market. Where to look: a rooftop's default market, a ZIP and radius, or a state.
  4. Vehicle. What to compare.

The results show the median asking price, the middle half of prices (25th to 75th percentile), the range, a confidence level, a price histogram, the listings (each links to the seller's page), and removed listings grouped as sold (only when the provider explicitly reports it), delisted or expired.

Check your inventory against the market #

  1. Select the Inventory vs market tab.
  2. Choose a Rooftop (or all your rooftops).
  3. Select Refresh from the market to fetch fresh data. Opening the tab without refreshing shows cached results only and spends nothing.
The Inventory vs market tab with the rooftop and refresh controls and the position column highlighted (open full size)
Inventory vs market. Numbers match the list below.
  1. Rooftop and refresh. One provider call per make and model group that is not already cached. At most 25 groups are fetched per run; the rest show as not checked.
  2. Position. Each available or pending unit against listings of the same make and model, model year ±1. Below market is under the 25th percentile and above market over the 75th (with fewer than 10 comparables: under 90% or over 110% of the median).

Each console vehicle page also shows a Market position panel for available and pending units, from cached data. Its button runs a fresh check for that unit.

Read demand signals #

  1. Select the Demand tab.
  2. Choose the market, an optional type and make, and the Window (days).
  3. Select Analyse.

Each segment shows active and removed listings, the removal rate, median days listed, a demand index, your own units and a flag when it looks understocked. Suggestions to buy are labeled as recommendations, with a pricing band. They are suggestions for a person to weigh, not facts.

How to read the numbers #

  • Prices are asking prices, not sale prices.
  • A listing that disappears is delisted, never assumed sold.
  • Below fixed sample sizes you see NOT ENOUGH DATA: 5 comparables for a median or position, 10 for percentiles, 20 for high confidence, 15 observations per segment for demand.
  • Every result shows its source, when the data was observed (with Cached or Stale badges), the market, the sample size, data completeness and the licence note.

Tips #

  • Search with cached results first. A fresh search uses one or two provider calls from your monthly budget; repeating it within the cache period is free.
  • Review Inventory vs market for units over 60 days in stock before each price meeting.
  • The Market comparison and Demand and stocking reports in the report library read the same cached data and never spend calls.
  • The AI assistant can run comparables, position and demand questions when the provider's licence allows AI use.
