Aftermarket accessories and warranties
List installed accessories on a unit, build your warranty catalog, and set what warranty each vehicle has or offers on the website and at the desk.
Shoppers want to know what's bolted on and what's covered. On every vehicle you can list aftermarket and installed accessories (an exhaust, a lift kit, a fish finder) and state its warranty: factory coverage remaining, a dealer warranty included, extended plans for sale, or sold as-is. Both show on your website, and warranties you offer become optional products at the desk.
Before you start #
Build your warranty catalog first, so you can pick products on each vehicle.
Build the warranty catalog #
- Open Inventory › Warranties.
- Select New warranty.
- Enter a Name, choose a Type (dealer limited, manufacturer remaining, extended service contract, powertrain, third party or other) and the Provider / administrator.
- Enter the term in months, miles and/or hours, and the Deductible.
- Enter the Price to customer and, if you can see costs, the Dealer cost.
- Write a short Coverage summary (shown on the website) and paste the Full terms.
- Under Eligibility, limit the product to certain vehicle types, conditions, a maximum age in model years or maximum miles. Leave them empty to allow all.
- Save. You can later edit, deactivate or delete a product.
(open full size)- New warranty adds a product to the catalog.
- Vehicles shows how many units include or offer each product.
- Aftermarket accessories on the website: tick Show accessory retail values to show each accessory's value and the total on vehicle pages. It is off by default and applies to the whole dealership.
Add accessories to a vehicle #
- Open the vehicle and scroll to Aftermarket & installed accessories.
- Open Add an accessory.
- Choose a Category (exhaust, suspension, lighting, luggage, marine electronics and so on) and enter the Brand, Name and optional Part number.
- Fill in Installed (date), Installed by (dealer, previous owner or unknown), an optional Retail value, a Description for shoppers and Staff notes (never shown publicly).
- Keep Show on website ticked for public items, then select Add accessory.
You can edit, reorder or remove items later. Visible items appear on the vehicle page, in comparisons, in website search and in marketplace descriptions.
Set a vehicle's warranty #
- On the vehicle page, scroll to Warranty.
- Choose the Warranty status:
| Status | What you also fill in | Website badge, for example |
|---|---|---|
| Factory warranty remaining | The expiry date, or miles or hours remaining | "Factory warranty until June 30, 2027" |
| Dealer warranty included | The Included dealer warranty from your catalog | "Includes 12-month dealer limited warranty" |
| Warranty available for purchase | One or more Warranties offered for purchase | "Extended warranty available from $1,299" |
| Sold as-is (no warranty) | Nothing | "Sold As-Is" |
| Implied warranty only | Nothing | "Implied warranty only" |
- For used units, record the FTC Buyers Guide choice (As Is – No Dealer Warranty or Dealer Warranty).
- Optionally add a Note for shoppers and Staff notes.
- Select Save warranty. Leaving the status blank clears it.
(open full size)- Add an accessory opens the accessory form.
- Warranty status sets the badge shoppers see.
- FTC Buyers Guide (used units) is a record for your files.
- Warranties offered for purchase lists your active catalog products.
To set the same warranty on many units, tick them in Inventory › Vehicles, choose Set warranty in the bulk actions and select Apply (bulk actions need the Advanced inventory plan feature).
At the desk #
On a deal's desking screen, the Warranties panel lists the products offered on that vehicle first, then other eligible catalog products. Add to worksheet adds the product as a protection-product line with its price and cost. When the customer signs, the vehicle's own warranty is recorded on the deal. See Deals and desking.
Tips #
- Shoppers can filter your website inventory by warranty (included, available or as-is), so set a status on every unit.
- List high-value accessories. Their brand, name and part number are searchable on your website.
- Keep Dealer cost up to date: it feeds gross profit at the desk.
