Vehicle photos
Upload, order, describe and remove vehicle photos, and learn how MotoDealerHQ resizes them, strips location data and blocks duplicates.
Photos sell units. Each vehicle page in the console has a Photos section where you upload pictures, put the best one first, and add alt text for shoppers who use screen readers. The first photo is the main image on your website, in marketplace feeds and on spec sheets.
Before you start #
- Save the vehicle first. The Photos section appears on the vehicle page after the first save.
- Have JPEG, PNG or WebP files ready, up to 15 MB each.
Upload photos #
- Open Inventory › Vehicles and select the vehicle.
- Scroll to Photos.
- Under Upload photos, choose up to 30 files at a time.
- Optionally type Alt text to use for this batch.
- Select Upload. The status line counts the files as they go up, and the page reloads when the batch is done.
(open full size)- Main photo. The first photo is the main image everywhere.
- Alt text. Describe what the photo shows and select Save under it.
- Save order. Saves the order after you drag photos around.
- Upload photos. Pick files and select Upload.
Put photos in order #
- Drag a photo to its new place. With a keyboard, focus a photo and use the arrow keys.
- Select Save order.
Put a clear exterior shot of the whole unit first. The merchandising panel warns you when the main photo is too small, dark or blurry, or is also used on another vehicle.
Remove a photo #
Select Delete under the photo and confirm. Deleting is immediate and can't be undone.
What happens to each photo #
When you upload a photo, MotoDealerHQ:
- checks that it really is a JPEG, PNG or WebP image (up to 40 megapixels);
- turns it upright using the camera's orientation;
- scales it down to the dealership's maximum size (2,400 px on the longest side unless your dealership or platform changed it);
- re-encodes it, which removes location (GPS) and camera data;
- refuses it if the same photo is already on this vehicle, even if it was resized or re-compressed ("This photo is already on this vehicle.");
- makes smaller JPEG and WebP copies so phones and listing pages load quickly.
Your original file isn't kept: the processed version replaces it.
Videos #
Below Photos you'll find Videos. Paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook or Instagram link to add a walkaround or review video. Video files are never uploaded. See Video links.
Tips #
- Shoot in landscape. Photos taller than they are wide, or very wide panoramas, get a quality warning.
- Aim for at least 12 photos per unit. That earns full points for photos in the completeness score.
- Use stock or placeholder photos only until you have real ones. Shoppers expect photos of the actual unit.
- Write short, specific alt text, for example "Left side of a red 2024 Honda Grom".
