Campaigns, tracked links and attribution

Tag ads, emails, flyers and posts with tracked links and QR codes, and see which campaign or channel brought each website lead.

Tracked links tell you where your website leads come from. When a shopper arrives through a tagged link, the website remembers the campaign and copies it onto any lead they send. You then see which ads, emails and flyers actually bring in business.

Before you start #

  • Your plan must include the Marketing feature (Pro and Enterprise).
  • You need marketing.view to see campaigns and links, and marketing.manage to create them.
  • Decide on simple, consistent names, for example spring-sale-2026.

Create a campaign #

  1. Open Marketing › Campaigns & links.
  2. Open New campaign.
  3. Enter a Name and choose a Channel, for example Google Ads, Meta ads, Email marketing, or Print, radio, TV, direct mail and events.
  4. Optionally set the Campaign tag (the utm_campaign value), Source, Medium, Location, Starts, Ends and Notes.
  5. Select Create campaign.

Each campaign tag can be used once in your dealership. When a lead arrives with that tag, it is linked to the campaign, and the campaign's channel is used for reporting.

Campaigns & links. Numbers match the list below.
  1. New campaign. Name, channel, tags, location and dates.
  2. Link builder. Makes a tracked link and QR code for a page on your website.
  3. Lead attribution. Where your website leads came from.
  1. Under Link builder, enter a Label, for example "Fall flyer".
  2. Enter the Page on your website, for example /promotions/fall-clearance.
  3. Choose a Campaign to fill in its tags, or choose None and fill in Source, Medium and Campaign tag yourself. Term and Content are optional.
  4. Select Create link.
  5. Copy the Tracked address into your ad, email or post, or download the QR code as SVG (best for print) or PNG.

Links always point at your own website's main address.

See where leads came from #

  1. On Marketing › Campaigns & links, select Lead attribution.
  2. For each website lead you see the first and the last campaign or referral before they sent a form, with the channel and landing page.
  3. Open a lead to work it in the CRM.

Channels are worked out the same way every time: paid channels (Google Ads, Microsoft Ads, Meta ads, TikTok ads, other paid), email, offline and QR, marketplaces, organic search, organic social, referral and direct.

How tracking respects privacy #

  • Tracking is first-party. It happens on your own website and sends nothing to an ad network.
  • Only the campaign tags, the landing page and the referring website are kept. Click IDs from Google, Meta and Microsoft are recorded only as "present", never stored. Anything that looks like an email address or phone number is dropped.
  • The website remembers a visitor's campaign between visits only if they accepted cookies, or if your site does not show a consent banner. Otherwise it remembers it for the current browser tab only.
  • Server-side visit records used for attribution are deleted after 90 days.

Tips #

  • Use a QR code on printed materials, trade-show banners and service invoices, with the medium set to qr.
  • Tag every paid ad. Google Ads and Meta can add your tags automatically in their URL settings.
  • Combine attribution with ad spend to get cost per lead and return on ad spend.
