Releases and versions

How MotoDealerHQ numbers and names its releases, how to see which version you are on, and where to read what changed.

MotoDealerHQ is updated for every dealership at the same time; there is nothing to install. Each update has a version number and, for every group of feature releases, a codename. This page explains how to read them.

The current release #

The help center always describes the release that is running. You can see it in three places:

  1. Here. Every help-center page says "Documentation for MotoDealerHQ" followed by the version, for example 1.0.0-beta.1 “Assen”.
  2. In the dealer console. Open your user menu (your initials in the top-right corner); the version is shown at the bottom of the menu.
  3. In the API. Every API response carries an X-MotoDealerHQ-Version header, and GET /v1 returns the release.

How version numbers work #

Versions follow Semantic Versioning: MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH, sometimes with a pre-release label.

The REST API has its own version in its address (/v1). If an incompatible API ever ships, it arrives as /v2 next to /v1, never in place of it.

Codenames #

Every MAJOR.MINOR line gets a codename, taken in alphabetical order from famous racing circuits: 1.0 “Assen”, 1.1 “Brno”, 1.2 “Catalunya”, 1.3 “Daytona”, 1.4 “Estoril”, and so on. Fix releases keep the name of their line: 1.0.3 is still “Assen”.

What changed #

The changelog lists every notable change, release by release, under the headings Added, Changed, Fixed and Security. Changes that are finished but not yet released are listed under Unreleased at the top.
