Navigation and redirects
Edit your website's header and footer menus, build dropdowns, and redirect old links from a previous website to the right new pages.
Menus help shoppers find their way around your site. Redirects keep old links working, for example links from your previous website, printed flyers or search results.
Before you start #
You need the website.manage permission. Menu and redirect changes go live as soon as you save them; there is no draft step.
Edit the header and footer menus #
Your site has two menus: the Header menu across the top and the Footer links at the bottom. New dealerships start with useful items already in place, including an About group with Our team, Reviews, Events, Careers, Blog and Locations.
- Open Website › Navigation.
- To change an item, edit its Label, Link or Order (lower numbers come first).
- To put an item in a dropdown, choose a top-level item in its Parent column. Header menus have one dropdown level.
- To hide an item without losing it, check Hidden. To remove it, check Delete.
- To add an item, fill in the empty row at the bottom of the menu (New label and New link).
- Select Save navigation.
(open full size)- Header menu. The items across the top of every page.
- Dropdown parent. Choose a top-level item to place this one in its dropdown.
- Hide / delete. Hide an item for now, or delete it.
Links can be a path on your site, such as /inventory, /inventory?condition=new, /inventory?type=motorcycle, /promotions, /locations or any page's URL, or a full https:// address.
Add a redirect #
Use a redirect when a page has moved, or when you replace an older website and want its links to keep working.
- Open Website › Redirects.
- Under Add redirect, enter the Old path, for example
/used-bikes.html. It must start with/. - Enter the Destination: a path such as
/inventory?condition=used, or a fullhttps://address. - Choose the Type: 301 Permanent for pages that moved for good, or 302 Temporary for short-term changes.
- Select Add.
(open full size)- Old path → destination. Enter where the link used to point, where it should go now, and the type.
The list shows each redirect and how many times it has been used. Select Remove to delete one.
How redirects work #
- A redirect applies only when no page exists at the old path. A real page always wins.
- Each old path can have one redirect.
- The destination must be different from the old path.
Tips #
- Before you switch from an old website, list its most visited pages and add a 301 redirect for each one. You keep the search ranking those pages built up.
- The SEO audit lists broken internal links. Fix them with a redirect or by correcting the link.
- Keep the header menu short. Six to eight top-level items with dropdowns works well on phones too.
